Biomass – Wood Fuel
A renewable, sustainable, cheap and clean source of energy. Biomass can be categorised into two types of fuel.
Woody Biomass
Includes wood chips, logs, energy crops and short term coppice crops such as Willow – basically, natural, untreated forms of fuel. Simple wood fuel is carbon neutral. This means that, when burning, it only expels as much C02 into the atmosphere, as it has absorbed during the growing period of the tree. There are no toxic risks associated with its’ use.
Non-Woody Biomass
Includes such things as industrial and animal waste, as well as high energy crops like sugar cane, maize and rape.
Wood Pellet Boilers
Wood from sustainable forests and waste wood is used to form wood pellets. These pellets are automatically and gradually fed into a specialised burner to give a very successful and economical form of heating.
